Description
The Unique Writer is happy to present the 2023 literature workshop selection: Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. Join us as we discuss important themes such as growing up, family, loyalty, and eternity in this sweet classic. There is magic in the forest!
Each week students will read selected chapters prior to the workshop meetings.
Workshops will begin with a discussion of the assigned reading based on the elements of fiction:
- setting
- character
- plot
- conflict
- theme
Following the discussion, we will engage in a variety of creative activities all centered on the book:
- oral storytelling (creative speaking)
- creative writing
- responsive writing to literature
- drawing/sketching (optional)
- extended writing opportunities to be completed outside of the workshop (optional)
Please note: Students will be required to read the assigned passages prior to each workshop, including the first one. Literature workshops do not include written homework. However, students will be given optional writing prompts to be completed at home. Writing outside the literature workshop and sharing within the workshop community are encouraged to enhance student learning.
Students are encouraged to watch the movie adaption of Tuck Everlasting. A discussion of the similarities and differences between the book and the movie will be included in the fourth workshop. This movie is family-friendly as reviewed on Plugged-in and Common Sense Media. It is currently available for streaming on Disney+ with a subscription and on several streaming platforms for a $3.99 rental fee.
